The Night
The Micklegate Social on York's Micklegate runs Social Sessions, a weekly music open mic every Wednesday (except the first Wednesday of the month) from 8:30pm. It's a relaxed, friendly bar a short walk from the railway station, with a full PA on the stage and a crowd that's there for the music. Just turn up and sign up on the night, entry is free. Note there's also a separate pay-what-you-can comedy open mic at the venue on other dates.
About Micklegate Social
Micklegate Social is a corner bar overlooking York's city walls, blending speciality coffee, brunch, ten craft-beer lines and fresh food with a genuine live-music programme. Its basement room — The Den — is a dedicated stage space with brick walls and red neon, hosting frequent gigs (acts such as Vinny Peculiar, Lost Hours and Josh of All Trades) plus a regular jazz session and ticketed events listed on Skiddle, Songkick and See Tickets. Rustic-industrial upstairs, dog-friendly by day and backed by a house PA with two mics, it's one of York's better grassroots rooms for originals and covers.
