The Hop York is a real-ale house in the heart of the city on historic Fossgate (YO1 9TA), serving wood-fired pizza alongside beers fresh from Ossett Brewery. Music is central to its identity: the best acoustic acts and bands play every Friday and Saturday from 8pm with free entry, and Sundays host the Hop Open Mic from 8pm where any acoustic act can simply turn up and play. Run on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations, the roughly 70-capacity room is a welcoming, low-key fixture of York's grassroots circuit.
