The facts most ads leave out
In their words
Example ad - Birmingham afrobeat and jazz outfit needs a drummer for a regular seat. Monthly rehearsals, roughly two paid shows a month, house kit and PA provided. Groove matters more than chops.
Eight-piece out of Birmingham playing afrobeat, highlife and jazz-leaning grooves - been together since 2012 and we gig roughly twice a month around the Midlands, plus a handful of festivals over the summer. What the seat involves: long-form grooves rather than busy playing. If you love Tony Allen you already understand the job. We write our own material and drop in the occasional Fela or Ezra Collective arrangement, so the set is about half originals half rearranged. The practicals: we rehearse once a month on a Saturday afternoon at a room in Digbeth with a house kit, so you do not need to lug anything to rehearsals. For shows the PA and transport are covered. Fees are around 100 a show, more when there is travel involved. Who we want: someone who can hold a groove for eight minutes without getting bored, reads a chart or learns by ear, and enjoys playing with a horn section. There are three of them and they are loud.
