Charlton Down Village Hall, also known as Herrison Hall, is a community hall in the village of Charlton Down about four miles from Dorchester in Dorset. Its centrepiece is a magnificent Victorian ballroom designed by the architect G. T. Hine and built in 1894 to 1895 for the community at the former Herrison Hospital, with c. 300 square metres of floor. The wider complex was updated in 2003 and now offers three hireable rooms - The Ballroom, The Watts Room and Toad Hall - plus kitchen facilities. Alongside the weekly classes and clubs there is regular live music, including the 20to1 Big Band, and the occasional touring Motown or tribute night on the ballroom floor. Residents of Charlton Down, Charminster and Forston get 50 per cent off private hire. A classic village-hall setting for parties, weddings and the odd big night out.
