Sister Ray is a day-to-night cocktail bar on Wolstenholme Square in Liverpool's Ropewalks (Merseyside), named after the closing track on The Velvet Underground's 1968 album 'White Light/White Heat'. Opened in May 2024, it blends European café culture with a New York bar feel — Scandinavian-inspired interior, atmospheric lighting and booth seating. Music is central: the soundtrack is curated by resident Chris and rotating local DJs and musicians spanning disco, funk, rock & roll, jazz and calypso, and guests are actively encouraged to request tracks. It runs Wednesday to Sunday into the early hours. More an intimate DJ/listening bar than a band-stage gig venue, but a genuine live-music-led independent.
