The Night

The ‌‌‍King's Head in Guildford was once home to the much-loved GT Open Mic Sessions, which ran weekly for seven years at the Kings Road venue (GU1 4JW) until the Covid lockdown — but that open mic is no longer running. The host, Gavin, now does an acoustic 'request' night every other Thursday from 8pm instead, which is a hosted set rather than an open-stage night. The separate Quarry Street King's Head has no current open mic either (its listing dates to 2016). For a true open mic, look elsewhere in Guildford.

About The Kings Head

The ‌‌‍King's Head on Quarry Street is Guildford's oldest — and reputedly most haunted — pub, a late-1500s timber-framed building in the heart of the historic Saxon market town, right beside Guildford Castle in Surrey. It's a lively town-centre free house serving home-cooked food, six real ales and a broad drinks range, with outside seating and six big screens for live sport. Live music is a regular free fixture, including Gavin's acoustic request nights every other Thursday from 8pm, alongside a Wednesday quiz. With an in-house PA and a warm welcome for both acoustic acts and covers, it's a characterful, no-cover grassroots Guildford stage.

Planning Your Monday Night

Arrive early to sign up for a slot. Entry is free and the open mic typically runs until late. A PA is provided — bring your own instrument and amp.
