About This Open Mic
The Night
Barnsley Civic is South Yorkshire's friendliest arts centre, on Eldon Street, and runs a free, all-ages Open Mic (under-14s with an adult). It's an early-evening affair starting at 5:30pm, with a proper supplied rig — an SM58 mic, a monitor, two DI boxes, aux input and PA — so you can plug straight in. A relaxed, supportive room for first-timers and regulars alike; sign up on the night.
About Barnsley Civic
Barnsley Civic is a multi-arts centre at 46 Eldon Street in the heart of Barnsley (S70 2JL), describing itself as 'South Yorkshire's friendliest arts centre' with a theatre, music programme, gallery and exhibition spaces. In 2026 it marks 150 years of the building with an 18-month celebration, anchored by the Barnsley Folk Festival (29-31 May 2026) across the Civic and adjacent Mandela Gardens — including a rare hometown concert from Kate Rusby on 29 May. The programme runs ticketed live music, folk, tribute acts and theatre in an intimate seated room rather than a stand-up gig pit. A curated, programmed arts venue rather than an open-mic pub.
