Why can't I send a message yet?

To start a new conversation, your profile needs to be complete first. This keeps GigXchange for real members, not spam. The same applies to sending an offer, applying for a gig, or sharing an invoice, flyer or stage plot, because each one starts a conversation.

If you send before your profile is complete, nothing is sent. In a new conversation your words stay in the box; in an existing one the message shows Not sent · Tap to retry.

Depending on your version of the app, you will see either a message that names what is still missing, with a Complete profile button that opens your Profile (My Details if you organise events), or just Could not start the conversation. The reason is the same.

A complete profile has:

  • your first-time setup finished
  • a photo of your own: tap the camera icon on your photo (hovering it says Change photo)
  • your town or city
  • a bio of at least 50 characters
  • a social or website link, under Links

Organisers do not need a link. Tap the event types that apply under Events you organise on My Details instead.

If you are on the team of a band or venue whose profile is complete, you can message without completing your own. With a team-only login, the band or venue profile is the one to complete, and the button opens your Dashboard.

You can always reply. Once someone has written to you in a one-to-one conversation, you can answer straight away. You can also message the GigXchange team at any time.

When you are done, go back to Messages. For a new conversation, press the pencil icon at the top of your list (hovering it says New message) and type it again. In an existing one, tap Not sent · Tap to retry.
