St Mary's Creative Space — formerly the Church of St Mary-on-the-Hill — stands at the top of St Mary's Hill next to Chester Castle (CH1 2DW). The decommissioned church is now a vibrant community arts venue: in the last year it hosted more than 150 events including comedy, theatre, cabaret, tattoo conventions, photo shoots and plenty of live music, with a marvellous acoustic well suited to musical and theatrical performance. Concerts span folk, acoustic and indie, with past bills including Charm of Finches, Lauren Ruth Ward and The Urban Folk Quartet. The original area note ('Chester City & the Garden Quarter') is roughly right but the precise location is St Mary's Hill; the slug's 'london' is wrong — the venue is in Chester, Cheshire.
