Buxton Opera House is a grand 902-seat theatre on Water Street in the spa town of Buxton, Derbyshire, built in 1903 to a design by Frank Matcham, the architect behind the London Palladium and the London Coliseum. Seating runs across four levels - Stalls, Dress Circle, Upper Circle and Gallery - and the cantilevered balconies give every seat a clear view, unusual for a theatre of its age. As a full-time receiving house it stages around 250 performances a year across music, comedy, theatre, talks, dance, family shows and pantomime, and hosts the annual Buxton International Festival and the International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival. The same organisation runs the Pavilion Arts Centre, a flexible 355-seat space just behind the Opera House. Being a fully staffed theatre it provides an in-house PA and technical crew, making it the Peak District's flagship stage for touring music and entertainment.
