St Mary le Strand is a striking Baroque parish church at the eastern end of the Strand in central London, designed by James Gibbs and built between 1714 and 1723. Its intimate, ornate interior makes it a popular setting for candlelit chamber-music concerts — the Strand Chamber Music Series and a regular run of 'by candlelight' programmes (Moonlight Sonata, Bach, Chopin & Champagne, Mozart piano concertos) performed by ensembles such as the Piccadilly Sinfonietta. The atmospheric candlelit setting is ideal for discovering the nuance of live chamber performance. The original BYO-PA description was inaccurate for this professionally programmed classical concert church.
