The Smokehouse is an intimate, 70-capacity independent live-music venue at 6 South Street, Ipswich (IP1 3NU). Since opening in 2016 it has hosted over 200 acts a year — local, regional and national — curated by a mix of in-house promoters and visiting bookers, and it has taken part in Independent Venue Week. The programme spans rock, indie, punk, folk and acoustic sessions, deliberately bridging the gap between local pubs and the city's 100-plus-capacity rooms to give emerging artists a stage. When it's not hosting gigs the space is used by Out Loud Music, which runs alternative learning for children and adults with disabilities and mental-health needs — making it a community asset as well as a grassroots venue.
