The Ale House is a pleasant locals' pub a short walk from Taunton railway station on Station Road, pouring 3–5 cask ales drawn from a 60-strong SIBA catalogue alongside food, real cider and a rear garden. Live music is a fixture of the week here, with local artists playing every weekend and a Sunday open-mic night — and the music is always free. It's a relaxed, dog-friendly grassroots room with a big screen for sport, a covered smoking area and a car park, opening late (to midnight most nights and 1am Fridays and Saturdays).
