The Grove is an independent free house in the heart of Huddersfield, a short stroll from the train station, best known among musicians for its long-running traditional Irish session every Thursday from 8pm to 11pm. Players gather for jigs, reels and songs over a famously large real-ale and craft-beer list of more than 30 cask and keg lines, with anywhere from five to a dozen musicians joining in on a given week. It is a warm, unpretentious spot where listeners and players are equally welcome, and seating is limited when it gets busy, so arriving early is wise. Occasional weekend bands and other live entertainment round out the week.
