Whitby Pavilion is the town's largest venue, perched on the West Cliff with views over the North Sea and built in 1878 — a Victorian theatre kept up to date with modern sound and lighting. It runs a regular year-round programme of gigs, shows and cinema, and is home to several festivals including the twice-yearly Whitby Goth Weekend, the 60s Music Festival, folk weekends and Musicport's free Summer Sundays Live world-music concerts. It anchors the North Yorkshire coast's touring circuit between Scarborough and Teesside.
