The Night

The Sunflower is a much-loved Cathedral Quarter institution on the corner of Union and Kent Streets — beer garden, trad sessions, and live music in the main bar most nights. Its open mic runs every Monday from 7pm, hosted by Paddy Godfrey, and it's billed as the home of unsigned local acoustic talent: musicians, poets and comedians all welcome to take the stage. It's free to play, with a famously warm welcome (and a free pint of Beamish for performers).

About The Sunflower

The Sunflower Public House is a beloved Cathedral Quarter institution at 65 Union Street, Belfast (BT1 2JG) — instantly recognisable by the green security cage on its front door, a relic of the Troubles. It is one of the city's hardest-working music pubs, with live music in the main bar every night spanning traditional Irish sessions, Appalachian tunes, gypsy swing, folk and bluegrass, plus an upstairs room (around 60 capacity) hired for gigs, album launches and parties. The long-running Sunflower Open Mic on Monday nights from 8pm bills itself as 'the home of unsigned, local acoustic talent'. The venue provides a PA and backline (drums, guitar and bass amps), welcomes originals and covers, and serves Boxing Hare wood-fired pizza alongside the bar.

Planning Your Monday Night
