What to expect
Southampton open-mic crowds tend to be a mix of working musicians, friends and locals. Solo songwriters, duos and acoustic acts work best given the gear set-up; full bands should ask the host before turning up.
About Suburbia
Suburbia is billed as Southampton's most eclectic nightclub and grassroots live-music venue, at 27-29 Onslow Road (SO14 0JD). It opened in April 2017 in the former Lennons site and has since become a hub for emerging and local talent — from indie gigs and punk rock to techno and drum & bass. It hosts weekly open-mic nights showcasing the city's musicians, and runs the notable 'Heavy Jams' on the last Sunday of each month — an all-genres heavy-metal jam with full house backline and instruments provided, open to performers of all skill levels. The crowd is a mix of working musicians, friends and locals. With the house backline in place, solo acts, duos and full bands can all get up and play.
