The Workhouse — properly Y Dolydd, Llanfyllin's Workhouse — is a restored Victorian Union Workhouse turned community arts, heritage and music venue in the glorious Mid-Wales countryside near the market town of Llanfyllin, Powys (on the road to Lake Vyrnwy). It is the only workhouse in Wales open to the public. Run as a community enterprise, the site houses around 20 artist workshops, a heritage museum and a venue with its own cafe-bar and kitchen, while four courtyards, a garden and surrounding fields stage outdoor events. Live music is a year-round fixture, peaking in summer with the long-running Workhouse Festival plus steampunk weekenders, concerts, opera evenings and promoter nights such as Lyra Productions' Psychedelic Journey. Note: the import mislabels the city as London — the venue is in Llanfyllin, Powys.
