Pop Recs Ltd is an independent record shop, café and 250-capacity grassroots music venue in Sunderland's Sunniside quarter. Founded in 2013 as a Community Interest Company by local band Frankie & The Heartstrings, it grew from a pop-up record shop into a cornerstone of the region's arts scene, hosting gigs, art and photography exhibitions, DJ nights, independent cinema, spoken word and weekly community meets. Its current home on High Street West pairs a coffee shop and training kitchen at 173 with a purpose-built venue at 172, complete with its own stage, accessible toilets, a high-spec light and sound rig and a bar serving locally-brewed Vaux. Early years alone saw sets from Badly Drawn Boy, James Bay, The Cribs, The Vaccines, The Charlatans and Franz Ferdinand. Despite the slug saying London, it is firmly in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear.
