About Kazbar
Kazbar is a grassroots music venue in City Centre, Oxford. PA system and vocal mics are provided; bring your own instruments and amps.
Kazbar books Acoustic, Folk, Singer-songwriter acts. Both original music and covers are welcome. This listing is part of the Oxford venue directory.
Kazbar is a Spanish-Moroccan tapas and cocktail bar at 25-27 Cowley Road in East Oxford, and on Monday evenings it hands its North-African-souk-styled room over to Jamo's Open Mic Night — run by the JAMO Music agency (host James Morgan). The session runs roughly 7:30pm to 9:30pm, free to play and free to watch. It's a weekly walk-in night: turn up, get your name down on the night, and you'll get a short slot — typically a few songs for solo acts. The room suits acoustic and singer-songwriter sets best, given the cosy bar layout. A PA with a vocal mic is provided; bring your own instrument, amp and any pedals. The bar itself opens from 5pm Monday to Thursday, with the kitchen turning out authentic Spanish-Moroccan tapas (patatas bravas, meat, fish and plenty of veggie/vegan plates) alongside cocktails and a decent wine list — so you can grab food and a drink before or during the music. Phone the venue on 01865 202920 to double-check the night is on before travelling.
