The Hare & Hounds is a Grade II-listed Victorian pub and one of Birmingham's most important independent music venues, in the Kings Heath suburb (B14). The building dates to 1820 (present form 1907) and famously hosted UB40's first-ever gig in 1979; since 2007 it has become a cornerstone of the city's music scene. Its two upstairs rooms (capacity around 200) run live music and club nights spanning jazz, indie, funk, reggae, hip hop, soul, house, techno and drum & bass, plus a regular H&H Open Mic on Sundays (typically 4–8pm). Downstairs there are two bars, weekly pub quizzes (Wed & Sun) and a popular Saturday-afternoon Blues Club. Full PA and in-house sound.
