Built in 1829–32 in Gothic Revival style and deconsecrated in the 1970s, it was taken over by local community groups in 1977 and has been a cornerstone of the city's grassroots music scene ever since. The main hall holds around 600 (with a smaller ~300-capacity Fyfe Hall upstairs) and programmes everything from reggae, dub and ska to jazz, drum & bass, indie and world music, plus dance, theatre, workshops and community events.
