The Usher Hall is Edinburgh's flagship concert hall, an Edwardian landmark in the city's West End that has staged live music since it opened in 1914. The horseshoe-shaped auditorium seats up to 2,200 and is renowned across Europe for its acoustics, which is why touring artists, orchestras and choirs prize a date here. A 2010 restoration and glass-fronted extension brought the Grade A-listed building bang up to date without losing the period grandeur. Programming spans classical and orchestral concerts, rock and pop headliners, folk, dance and spoken word, and it is a core venue of the Edinburgh International Festival. Owned and run by the City of Edinburgh Council, it is a fully staffed, in-house-engineered hall rather than a bring-your-own-PA grassroots room.
