The Rat & Pigeon is a three-floor independent pub and grassroots music venue tucked behind Piccadilly Gardens at 33 Back Piccadilly, Manchester city centre (M1 1HP), on the corner with Little Lever Street. The ground floor is a traditional ornate pub; the first floor houses a dedicated gig room — the Red Room — and the second a hireable event space. Grassroots live music is core to the place: every Wednesday it stages a completely free night of two live bands followed by a DJ until 1am (with craft beer at £4 a pint), plus a monthly free jazz/soul/funk Monday and occasional weekend shows. All bands and genres are welcomed, making it a genuinely open-door stage for emerging Manchester acts. Cask pints £4.25 Mon–Fri 12–5.
