The Hope and Anchor is a Grade II-listed pub and basement live-music venue at 207 Upper Street, Islington, first opened in 1880. In the mid-1970s it became one of the first pub-rock and punk venues in London — Stiff Records was founded here, and Dire Straits, The Ramones, The Police, Squeeze and U2 all played the tiny basement stage. It remains a fully operational pub and gig venue today, with live music seven nights a week in the small downstairs room (around 90 capacity) and an upstairs bar available for hire. A genuine piece of London music history still putting on bands.
