The Betsey Trotwood is a much-loved four-storey Victorian pub at 56 Farringdon Road in Clerkenwell (EC1R 3BL), named after the David Copperfield character and formerly the Butchers Arms. Built over London's first Tube line, it pairs a welcoming street-level bar (good food and Shepherd Neame ales) with an intimate basement cellar that stages regular live music — billed as one of London's smallest live venues, seating roughly 25. Since 2002 the room has hosted early shows from the likes of Keane, the Magic Numbers, KT Tunstall and Boy Kill Boy, and it remains a beloved grassroots stage for indie, folk and singer-songwriter acts, plus drama and poetry nights.
