Shaw House is a beautifully restored Grade I listed Elizabethan mansion (built 1581) on the tranquil northern edge of Newbury, once King Charles I's headquarters during the English Civil War. Now run by West Berkshire Council as a multi-purpose events venue, it hosts weddings, conferences, exhibitions and performances both inside the house and across its grounds — and is a recurring venue for the Newbury Spring Festival, with concerts such as harp-and-poetry afternoons overlooking the Tudor garden. Visitors can also tour four recreated period rooms (Tudor Oak Room, Queen Anne Drawing Room, Georgian Parlour, Edwardian Bedroom).
