The Angel Inn is a 60-cap free house at 53 Crossgate, Durham's only dedicated rock and alternative music bar. Live bands play every Saturday (and most Fridays), with open-mic nights and a popular Wednesday music quiz pulling in the city's student and alternative crowds. With Durham's bigger venues focused on theatre and classical, the Angel is one of very few central spots regularly booking grassroots rock, punk and folk — and it has the best beer garden in town to match.
