The Night
The Acoustic Music Night at The Sportsman (1 St John's Road, HD1 5AY) is a friendly singaround held on the first and third Wednesday of each month, 8:30pm till 11pm in a separate curtained room. There's no stage and no microphone — most folk sing and play an instrument, and all styles are welcome, from folk and blues to the occasional spoken-word piece. Entry is free; bring a small amp if you need one, but it's really about taking your turn in the round. Long-running and warmly run — just turn up.
About The Sportsman
The Sportsman is a Grade II-listed 1930s 'improved' pub on the corner of St John's Road and Fitzwilliam Street in Huddersfield (1 St John's Road, HD1 5AY), run by the Dewsbury-based Beerhouses group and a multiple CAMRA Cider Pub of the Year winner. It's a strong grassroots live-music local: bands play regularly, alongside Motown and Northern Soul specials, and an Acoustic Music Night on the first and third Wednesday of each month — a relaxed singaround with no stage and no mic, so performers bring their own approach in an intimate, DIY setting. Cask, craft, real cider and an extensive Belgian/whisky range round out the offer.
