About This Open Mic
The Night
Mascara Bar is Stoke Newington's self-styled premier arts and music venue, and its open mic runs on Monday evenings every other week from around 8pm. It's a free, turn-up-and-sign-up night in a bar that programmes everything from jazz and spoken word to comedy and bands, so expect a warm, mixed crowd rather than a po-faced singer-songwriter circle. There's a PA in place; bring your own instrument. The bar stays open late (into the small hours), so the night has room to breathe.
About Mascara Bar
Mascara Bar is a 120-capacity late-night arts and music venue at 72 Stamford Hill in Stoke Newington, north London (N16 6XS). Programmed in part by the promoter Real Sounds, it bills itself as Stoke Newington's premier arts and music venue, running a genuinely eclectic diet of jazz, spoken word, comedy, original bands, open mic nights and even cinema. The room provides a full backline so touring and emerging acts can turn up and play, and the bar serves until 3am on weekends (Thursday to Sunday 12:00–03:00; Monday to Wednesday 12:00–02:00). It is a proper grassroots room that welcomes both original artists and covers, with a well-stocked bar including Guinness on tap.
