About This Open Mic
The Night
The Low Lights Tavern on North Shields Fish Quay runs one of the region's longest-running buskers' nights every Monday evening, hosted by the much-loved Bongo Bob. It's a warm, inclusive session in the oldest pub in town (a building serving ale since the early 1800s), with a dedicated music room and regulars often picking up the instruments kept in the back room. Entry is free, just turn up and add your name on the night. PA is provided; bring your own instrument.
About Low Lights Tavern
The Low Lights Tavern is the oldest traditional pub in North Shields, sat on Brewhouse Bank by the historic Fish Quay. It's a genuine grassroots music institution: Monday hosts one of the country's longest-running buskers' nights with host Bongo Bob, Thursday is an acoustic night, and Saturdays bring regular performers, with Irish, Northumbrian and Scottish folk the house favourites and organised gigs from bands like The Black Corner Band several times a month. Add a strong range of real ales and a legendary home-made pie kitchen turning out up to 800 pies a week, and you have a warm, music-soaked harbourside local that welcomes originals and covers on its house PA.
