The Night

The Ship Inn down Martin's Lane — a historic pub tucked between the Cathedral and the High Street — runs a friendly weekly open mic every Wednesday from 8pm to 11:30pm. There's always a varied mix of artists and a warm welcome; PA, mics, a loan guitar and a cajon are always there, with a keyboard usually (but not guaranteed) available too. It's free, and you can pre-book a slot with Tony on 07730 039638 or just drop in early and take your chances.

About Ship Inn

The Ship Inn is a historic Greene King pub down a narrow passage between Exeter's High Street and Cathedral Green — one of the oldest pubs in the city, with a Sir Francis Drake association. It runs live entertainment on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and its open mic nights are well set up for performers, with a house PA, mics, a loan guitar and a cajon always available and a keyboard often (though not guaranteed) on hand. It serves four regular ales plus guests and a real cider, with good-value food all day, and is dog- and family-friendly with step-free access. The acoustic-friendly open-mic format suits singer-songwriters, acoustic and covers acts.

Planning Your Wednesday Night

Arrive by 19:30 to sign up for a slot. Entry is free and the open mic typically runs until 23:30. A PA is provided — bring your own instrument and amp.
