About This Open Mic
The Night
The Crown Inn on Market Street in Oakengates hosts Shropshire's longest-established open mic on the last Thursday of every month, 7:45pm til 10:30pm. Hosted by Clare Bennett (The Indigo Machine) and Paul Atwell (Watermelon Chronicles), it's a genuinely welcoming, all-genres night — acoustic, blues, folk, jazz, hip-hop, comedy, poetry, even sea shanties — with a proper 10-track PA, foldback and stage lights provided. Entry is free, performers get a free drink, and you can book a slot at crownopenmic@gmail.com or just turn up.
About Crown Inn
The Crown Inn has sat at the heart of Oakengates, Telford since 1835 — a three-roomed Shropshire real-ale institution and one of only a handful of UK pubs to hold CAMRA's Golden Award, pouring guest beers from 14 cooled hand pulls. It is also one of the most dependable grassroots music rooms in the borough: quality live music fills many Saturday evenings, the Telford Acoustic Club gathers every Wednesday, and the pub runs Shropshire's longest-running Open Mic Night on the last Thursday of every month. With a Cask Marque-accredited bar, a dog- and child-friendly welcome, disabled access, a car park and a garden, it remains a genuine cornerstone of Telford's live-acoustic scene.
